I was lounging around on a lazy Saturday morning, flipping through the 200 or so channels I pay for which I never get a chance to watch, and I came across American Wedding. This is the final chapter in the more well known American Pie movie series. If you are in your 20’s you’ve no doubt seen or heard of such movies; they have introduced the term MILF into common culture, turned ‘band camp’ into a sexual deviant’s paradise, and made the penetration of pastry delights slightly less awkward.

But halfway through the movie it struck me what a legend Jim’s dad had become in these movies. The man absolutely steals every scene he’s in.   It’s also apparent that nothing phases him… every situation that his dimwitted son manages to find himself in, his dad plays it cool and acts as though it’s a “perfectly normal” thing to have happened. Getting caught with your penis in a warm apple pie on the kitchen table? No problem with Jim’s dad; he would just calmly explain the health risks, but at the same time let you know he understands the desires of horny teenage boys.

Superglue your hand to your junk while watching a porno? Hey… things happen, he’s still proud of you! Banging a girl in college when he walks in? No worries, in fact, he’d happily stay and coach you through the process.

So while its been a while since these movies were popular, lets not forget the great ‘Jim’s Dad’ and all the wonderful talks he had with his son; because no matter what we did in our own lives – chances are the conversation with our own dad was a lot less awkward!
